When an atomic research group goes to a Pacific Island to treat the natives for burns and diseases caused by radiation that has drifted over from local
U.S. A-bomb tests, the local witch doctor blames the Americans for the"black plague that has descended" on his people. The chief is killed and the witch doctor tries to grab the reins of power from his son, the island prince. He accuses the youth of being friendly with the Americans, and the cause of all the calamity. The prince is condemned to death, but before he
is killed, he vows, "I'll be back. I'll return from the grave for revenge." He is killed by being stabbed in the heart and buried. But soon, due to the radiation, he comes back to life as TABANGA the tree monster, and goes on a murderous rampage.
