When HAL reports a malfunction in the AE-35 communications module, Dr. Dave Bowman removes the 'failing' unit and brings it into the pod bay for diagnosis. Dr. Bowman connects the AE-35 module to the test bench to analyze its circuitry with a hand-held probe. The Test Bench monitor screen displays the inner workings of the module, but mysteriously, no flaw can be found.
