Shrimpenstein and the Vegas Vampire at Monsterpalooza

The original Shrimpenstein puppet will be on display at the Monsters In Motion booth at Son of Monsterpalooza on September 12-14 2014 in Burbank California. Also appearing live in person is the legendary Vegas Vampire.

After 48 years the actual Shrimpenstein Puppet created by WAH Chang will be making an appearance at Monsterpoolooza at the Monsters In Motion Booth. Fans of the Los Angeles based T.V. show will get a firsthand glimpse at one of the first Horror hosts of the 1960s created by Michael Dormer and Lee Teacher in this stylish T.V. show that inspired many shows to follow

Shrimpenstein was an offbeat children's television show, it premiered on KHJ channel 9 (Los Angeles, CA, USA) in 1966 and became an instant counter-culture hit. The show was created by Michael Dormer and Lee Teacher at the stylish plastic kitchen table of Dormer’s Ocean Beach home. Their pal at Capitol Records, producer Fred Rice, had suggested that they cook up some cute monster characters for merchandising, but when he saw the first Shrimpenstein storyboard, the fuse was lit. Rice, Teacher, and Dormer pitched the idea of a Shrimpenstein to the suits at KHJ.

Rice had already worked with Gene Moss and Jim Thurman, so Moss was tapped to play Dr. Von Schtick and Thurman to provide the voices.

Shrimpenstein, affectionately known as “Shrimpy”, was a miniature Frankenstein monster, "created" when jellybeans accidentally fell into the Monster Machine. The noted sculptor and puppet-meister, Wah Chang, brought Shrimpy to life.

Dormer and Teacher wrote all the scripts and the theme song lyrics. Rice and some friends from Capitol Records supplied the musicand Moss sang the theme song. Dormer also designed the sets and all the goofy machines.

The Vegas Vampire was a fictional character invented and portrayed by entertainer Jim Parker as the horror host of late night Shock Theater and Vegas Vampire shows at KHBV/KVVU, Channel 5, in Henderson, Nevada, and broadcast to the greater Las Vegas, Nevada area from the late 1960s through the 1970s.

The Vegas Vampire's show featured grade-“B” horror films, monster films, and science fiction films. The show was aired on Friday nights at 11 p.m.
